Drawn Circles: from Turkey, Bor & Iskenderum

Two drawn fabric circles — black marker on a stiff white upholstery fabric. I drew them last September in Turkey — the one above, in the town of Bor in Central Anatolia. The one below, with the prominent tree, in a campground outside of Iskenderum.

I made a fabric face for a moleskine notebook, sewed it together and then sealed it to the book cover, directly onto the leather. I will sell this one for about 20 dollars. More faces to come…

A drawn shirt, ordered by Aimee, with a few elements to incorporate into the drawing: Magritte, waistcoats, Nabokov, ice cream, etc. So a man’s medium cotton shirt, with black fabric marker wrapped almost all the way around — a street scene, buildings, pedestrians, and cafe table.

The Watermelon Slippers – Karpuz Tshirt

I hand drew these Watermelon (or Karpuz, in Turkish) Slippers on a lightly used white women’s tshirt. I used fabric paint-markers from Tee-Juice for the color, and then a fine black marker for the seeds and words. Here are more professional ones below — from a drawing I did in Istanbul — on sale now at Spreadshirt.

Drawn Sweatshirt: Cafe Circle

I found this sweatshirt in a lost and found — and then I drew this cafe scene on a white piece of fabric, backed it with some heat-bond-fabric-attacher, and then ironed it on to the back of the sweatshirt. I drew it on a flight from SFO-Chicago Midway in October.

Another drawn shirt from Istanbul. This time, a medium womans ivory tank, with the view from near the ferry station at Karakoy, looking over the Golden Horn to Eminonu.

Included: oysters, simit, akbil, and Aya Sofiya… A quick draw, only on the front of the shirt, from my last day there.

I do not understand any of these t-shirts.

Obviously there is some cryptic factory with an English language dictionary and vaguely threatening mission, that has persuaded lots of young Turks to wear their bizarre and nonsensical tshirts around Istanbul, to intrigue and confuse English speakers.

Business opportunity, I smell it!

Another Drawn Shirt from Istanbul, this time no buildings, just Turks. Three of them that I saw on August 15th, Turk watching, the national sport of Turks.

Yes they are slightly elongated, maybe it was for comic effect, maybe not.

A few smears and missteps, but who’s counting…? And after finishing, I decided to give the one big-hair lady sunglasses instead of Harry Potter glasses.
