It’s finally here, what all of Pittsburgh (and beyond) has been waiting for! The Official Acquaintance of Tony tote bag. This one, the prototype, is headed over to Mairead, we’ll see how many more I can unleash upon the world before Tony stops me.
And it was unintentional, that there is a slight Groucho vibe to my version of Tony. Perhaps this should be the next line of bags: Tony N., The Lost Fifth Marx Brother. Soon to be followed with Tony N., Bubba Hotep Redux…

Again for Kara, for all English majors in the world, What Happens in Vagueness as a tote bag.

I’ve silkscrened about 30 bags with this print, a Hand, decorated + lined. It was my first project at AIR, down on Pittsburgh’s North Side, and I’ve been having fun with Reds & Whites mainly. It’s only 5 dollars a screen, and I have plenty of tote bag fabric ready to be printed. I”ll be selling a bunch on Etsy +the next I Made It Market on the 6th.

I painted + sewed the fronts of these bags a month ago, but it was only after going to Puerto Rico (and witnessing hundreds of Carnival Cruise tourists with their tropical holiday bags) that I figured out how to design the rest of them. So here we are! Really simple — wide fabric handles, cinched with ribbon — a little classier than the usual tote bag, but even easier to sew. I’ll put them up for sale in a few days, when I’m ready to let them go.

I made this purse in the Spring, in preparation for travel and drawing. The silk samplers come from Roberta by way of Mairead, soft + bright. My favorite combination of colors, with plenty of red and some paisley too.

I made three Sneaker Bags — one Green, one Pink, one Red. They’re all sturdy canvas totes, all made out of repurposed materials, all available for purchase over at Etsy.

Mairead brought me a handful of gorgeous silk fabrics from Roberta out in the wilds of County Antrim. So beautiful, a little bit stiff like upholstery fabric, and with sheens that change in every light. I cut them up and assembled them into a tote bag — just big enough for a laptop plus a few books and apples. It is my new favorite! We’ll see how long it survives the Pittsburgh Public Transit System.
