Public Speaking Like a Lawyer

A sketchnote on how to speak confidently like a lawyer in court

During my 3L year of law school, I took an Advocacy class that focused on how to speak and present like a lawyer—how to stand, how to structure an argument, how to connect with an audience, and how to carry yourself with confidence under pressure.

To help myself remember everything, I made this sketchnote during class—a colorful, hand-drawn illustration full of notes, tips, and little reminders about the art of public speaking in the courtroom (and beyond).

Looking back on it now, it’s not just a study aid—it’s a great little snapshot of what it feels like to prepare for oral arguments and to learn how to project clarity, authority, and persuasion even when you’re nervous.

I’ve turned the sketchnote into a premium poster so others can enjoy it too. It’s printed in full color on heavyweight matte paper, with a soft, non-reflective finish that feels great in your hands or on your wall.

If you’re a law student, a lawyer, or just someone who wants to improve their public speaking and presentation skills, I hope it brings you the same mix of help and inspiration it brought me back in that 3L classroom.

You can get a copy of both the 1st print (with the title at the bottom) and the 2nd print (all about gestures) at my Etsy shop, full of law school drawings and gifts.

Thanks for reading—and good luck making your arguments heard!
