In preparation for the I Made It Market last weekend, I went into a mirror frenzy. Monsters, Bumblebees, Cats, Dogs, Robot Aliens! The show was buried under Pittsburgh snow, a no-go, but now I have a little more time to take pictures before I sell them on. Here’s a glimpse of the mirrors in middle of production.

I just completed four new Elephant Circle Mirrors, out of fabric scraps, ex-blankets, and old LP record albums. One Blue Satin, one Orange Satin, a Purple Denim one, and a Pink Woven one.
They’re all for sale now over at my Etsy shop here.

This is the third Elephant Circle Mirror I’ve made — the other two have sold out over the last two craft sales. People love elephants, I love elephants, and here there are 6 elephants worth of good luck upturned trunks! I’m deploying all my smaller upholstery samplers for maximum color. This one is now available for sale over at Etsy.
Just as with the Monster/Bear mirrors, this one is built around a mirror affixed to a vinyl record, and sewn around with old blankets cut and sewn together. Materialwise, they are purely repurposed, but they are really labor intensive! I enjoy the stitching and the colors enough to be hungry for more. I am planning wedding presents with these, everyone needs more elephants in their life.

Two more record album cover bags — two more Talking Heads albums! This brings the Talking Heads bag total to 4. I want to keep them all, but I will instead put them on sale and hope that no one buys them.

I’ve been laboring over these last week and yesterday, I have a whole stack of fatherly LPs to progress through. But for now these will have to do. I sold my first ones — the Neil Young and the Prince — this weekend, and I’ll put the rest of them up for sale at this weekend’s Union Project event UnWrapped.
If you’re taking notes the albums are Elvis Costello – My Aim is True, Prince – 1999, Neil Young – two albums that I forget the names of, Talking Heads – Naked, and Making Flippy Floppy/Slippery People single, New Kids on the Block, Pink Floyd – The Wall, and Big Country. My favorites – Talking Heads and Elvis Costello, no surprise. But the Prince, I love the record album with the creepy single eye looking out from the center. I’ve got to find something to do with that, thank you Prince

There are three cupboards worth of vinyl LPs (and curiously only one 45 rpm, The Beatles, side a Let It Be, side B, You Know My Name (Look Up My Number)). I am going to mobilize them somehow. The first deployment — earring standards. They’re up for sale on Etsy!
This one is the Original Rocky Soundtrack. Also made are Neil Young, Elvis Costello, and Big Country. It was slightly sad to kill these albums. But there they are!

Or any other face of my choosing! I am going to make some bags out of LP casings. There’s one over at Web Goddess that is more a hardware project than a sewing one, but I guess in the battle of Sewing Machine Vs. Cardboard, Cardboard will always win. I know that now. With a pile of snapped needles and a few purple fingertips to testify. Maybe I’ll be able to make some by Sunday’s craft fair! Let the sewing go on, by Sunday I will be a cripple…
