Law School Sketchbook: Palsgraf v Long Island Railroad torts case

For all those law schooling or law schooled—this one’s straight from my 1L sketchbook. Back in Torts class, we met poor Ms. Palsgraf, just minding her business at the train station when a chain of chaotic, well-meaning acts unfolds far away. A dropped package. An unexpected explosion. A flying scale. And one big question: Was she a foreseeable plaintiff?

This full-color flowchart illustrates the wild facts and legal reasoning in one of tort law’s most enduring debates on proximate cause and duty. Originally drawn in class and later finished with digital color and detail, it’s part comic, part outline, and entirely unforgettable.

You can get an art print in many sizes over at my Etsy shop.

Printed on heavyweight, archival-quality matte paper with a smooth, non-reflective finish.
Perfect for law students, bar takers, or anyone who still finds Palsgraf equal parts confusing and iconic.
